of Watling Street the one is about 5 feet high and the
Roman Wall Revd – Lee other which is nearest the Tyne,
"About 50 yds East of the 20[th] milestone will be seen still standing a part of the wall which about 3 feet high, the remainder of
Hutton exerted himself to preserve, and a little further down the Hill, an altar resting against the wall through the parish is
the ruins of the Wall in the Grounds of Brunton". McLauchlans Memoirs of the Roman Wall undefined
"Continuing to descend the Hill, we come to Planetree Field where on the left of the road a
conspicuous piece of the Wall remains, it is about 36 yds long and has in some places
5 courses of facing stones entire. In the Grounds of Brunton,a little below this
a small piece of the wall may be seen in great perfection it is 7ft high
the altar which stands by it formerly discharged the office
of a Gatepost at the entry of St Oswalds Chapel" Bruces Roman Wall
FOSS Fosse Revd – Lee 2 Chains S of The fosse keeps close by the
(Track Site of) Fosse Mr. Wilson Brunton House wall and for considerable distances
Fosse Mr. Elliot can be clearly traced through the
parish
