Langley Castle (Remains of) List of Co Voters Castle Farm. being the propertry of arious familyies
fam formed part of the confiscated
estates of the Earl of Derwentwater
(who lost both his head and estates
after the rebelion of 1715) the
Crown transferred it to the Greenwich
Hospital whose property it now is:
its Architecture is "Early English" and
the walls are in pretty good preservation
a small portion being still covered
and forming the residence of the
Woodman for the Estate. the ancient
part of the Castle is shewn on the trace
deeply colored. The lighter coloring
being only a recently erected Cow-
-house for the Convenience of the Wood-
man, in Mackenzies Hist Vol II P266
it is stated that "it has been defended
to the west by a deep fosse" no remains
of this feature at present exists.
