It seems probable that Armstrong in his Co Map has hit on the true junction of the stones can be seen; the remaining
Devil’s Causeway with Watling Street at Bewclay, where our Road "(Watling Street)" makes a portion to the Watling Street is
fresh turn of 25° more to the Westward and runs straight towards Colwell and Little inserted on the opinions of the leading
Swinburn. The ground at Bewclay is elevated, and being at a turn in the Road, would Antiquaries; but not a particle of
serve well for an Exploratory fort, not only for the Watling Street, but also for the supposed information can be obtained from
branch called the Devils Causeway. It would be in sight of Moat Law & Grindstone Law. the inhabitants and there is no traces
both exploratory camps overlooking the line of the the Devils on the ground: The Site is a

in Watling Street is made. if this be the Devil’s Causeway, it has more the appearance
of a British than a Roman Road. of this spot General Roy observed. At Bewclay about
two miles North from Portgate in Northumberland a branch called the Devils Causeway, goes off
