CONDERCUM Condercum Revd C Bruce About 3 chains SW This Station is about 2 miles
(Site of) Condercum R. Muncaster Esqr of Benwell Hills from Newcastle the greater portion of it
Condercum Revd. W. Maughan is converted into a Garden which is attached
Condercum MacKenzie’s History of Northumberland to Benwell Park the residence of R Muncaster Esqr
Condercum Mr. Maclachlan’s plan of the Roman Wall Mention is made by Dr Bruce & other Antiquarians
Condercum Whellans directory of particular looking grounds being on the Camp
Condercum Brand’s History but at the present time there is not the
Condercum White’s Directory slightest appearance of them a part of
Condercum, Benwell County Register of the Electors for 1858 the S. Rampart & nearly the whole of the
Condorcum, near Benwell Sykes’ Local Records vol:1 P.3 W. is quite traceable particularly the
Condercum – Benwell or Benwall Brand’s History of Newcastle. W. the slope is about 5 feet higher than the
other portion of the field & is wooded
Numerous A good number of Monumental Stones.
& several sculptures were found here as well as
many coins struck from the Reign of Hadrian
to that of Maxentious. For further information
see from P.107 to 113 Dr. Bruce’s History.
Supposed Site of (Supposed site of) There is not the smallest indication or Vestage
HYPOCAUST Hypocaust R Muncaster Esqr About 4 chains of a building here but Dr. Bruce corroborates
(Supposed site of) S.W of Benwell Hills the supposition. Another Hypocaust was about
Hypocaust Revd. Dr. J. C. Bruce 12 chains from this but neither Mr Maclauchlan or
(Supposed site of) Dr. Bruce have given the site. P.109. Dr. Bruce’s Histy
Hypocaust Mr. Maclauchlan’s History Dr. Bruce thinks they were intended for hot baths and
sudatories
