Ponteland Castle at one period it was of great

Ponteland Castle trace is all that remains, it is in
Castle Mackenzie’s History a ruinous condition, & used at
Castle White’s Directory present as an outhouse for keeping
lumber in
"The town and Castle were burnt by the
"Scotch Army on its march from Newcastle

The Rectory Rectory Mr Brown in Ponteland A large House, with Garden
Rectory Mr Spraggon Village attached, taking the name from
Rectory Mr Laws having been the residence of the
lessee for the rectorial tithes prior
to their having been collected by
the Patrons themselves (the Warden
& fellows of Merton College Oxford)
the rental still forms part of the
Rectorial income, & the name is
well known & will remain so as
long it as the house stands
