(In Ruins) Prudhoe Castle Mr. Hutchinson East of the Boat House situated on an eminence near
Prudhoe Castle Mr. Johnson the Tyne. It was anciently the
Prudhoe Castle Whellan’s Directory principal seat of the Umfravilles.
Prudhoe Castle MacKenzie’s History The castle was gallantly and successfully
Prudhoe Castle White’s Directory defended against William, King of
Scotland. in the reign of Henry II.
The ground on which the castle stands
is high towards the river, & on the
opposite side, the walls have been defended
by deep ditches, which were crossed by
a drawbridge. There have been recent
additions made to the castle & the
remains have been secured from
entirely falling, by judicious
repairs in the parts most delapidated.
The castle and grounds adjoining
is now the property of the Duke
of Northumberland
