Shoreswood Loan Mr James R. Nicholson 6.7 & in a South direction off the
Shoreswood Loan Mr George Davidson, Schoolmaster 6.11 Turnpike Road, a short distance
Thornton School South of "Thornton Toll Gate", and
bears this name to where it joins
the Turnpike Road between
Thorntonpark and Shoreswood.
It is only a green lane, never
having been macadamized.
Peggy’s Whins Peggy’s Whins Mr William Makins On Sheets A large district of good arable
Mr James R. Nicholson 6.6 & land comprising 4 fields along
Mr George Davidson, Schoolmaster Thornton Schools 6.7 the west side of Shoreswood
Lane before being cultivated it
was a complete forest of Whins
but why it was called "Peggy’s Whins"
I could not ascertain. There
was a well in one of these enclosures
called "Peggy’s Well", but the water has
been converted from it, and brought by
pipes to Thornton
