Norham Castle Norham Castle Revd W C King, Vicar On Sheet The only portions of this formidable
(Ruins of) (remains Ruins of) Alexr Smith Esqr; Galagate 6.5 fortress now remaining is are the South-east
Norham Castle Mr Alexr Davison, Overseer walls and vaults which occupy an eminence
(remains Ruins of) on the south side of the River Tweed a short
distance East of Norham Village. It
is constructed of red freestone and about
seventy feet in height, containing four stories
and has been encompassed by a wide moat
on the south and south-west, terminated on
the north by precipitous rocks, on the
brink of which the ruin stands. On the
outside of this moat, enclosing a spacious
area is are the remains of a strong wall, and
two arched gateways, which appear to
have been defended on the outside by a
trench of considerable dimensions. The
Castle, including a dwelling house, and
garden, is the property of Mrs Blake.
