St Cuthberts Church Church Revd Wm C King. MA Vicar On Sheet A stone structure one storey high
(Vicarage) Church Mr Mark Young, Ph Clerk 6.5 having a belfrey tower at the west end.
Mr Richd Forsyth, Schoolmaster It was repaired in 1836, and ’45: and
St Cuthberts Church {See Parish Name seated to accommodate about four
(Vicarage) {List Page 1 hundred persons. The east end of the
present edifice comprises a portion
of "the Middle Aisle of the ancient Church
said to be built in 840", and now dedic-
ated to St. Mary. The remainder of
this venerable edifice is now entirely demol-
ished, but a slight rise in the surface
of the ground still indicates its site as
having extended about thirty-three
yards eastward, on the prolongation of the
remaining part of the Aisle. In the removal
of this portion of the building, Urns
and other relics have been found.
