Heaton Castle Heaton Castle Mr Gray, Old Heaton On Sheet About 2 miles east by north
(Remains of) (Remains of) Mr John Gray 10.5 of Cornhill are the ruins of the
Northd Directory P. 931 old fortress of the Grays Heaton
Castle. It was besieged by the
Scottish army previous to the Battle
of Flodden Fields and from its
position could not be easily taken.
Part of the old building still remains
standing in the midst of the farm
yard and is used as a stable.
The roof is vaulted, the walls of great
strength which bear the impress of
great antiquity.

the House being very pleasantly
situate on the south side of the
Till. The present occupants are
the Messrs Gray and the property
is owned of the Earl of Tankerville
of Chillingham Castle.
