Old Hall Mr. B. Harbottle of Mitford Steads Mitford Castle had become ruinous & prior to the
Old Hall Mr. Harbottle building of the present Hall, this building is
mentioned in White’s Directory & its supposed
date of erection is A. D. 1601
An Old Hall or Mansion the former
residence of the Mitford family,
now occupied by Mrs Mitfords
gardener the property of
Admiral Mitford.

from an inscription on the small building
