by the name, they havn’t been
worthy inserting on the plan
Proudy Hill Proudy Hill Tithe Plan 62 Chains S.W. A very bold & conspicuous Eminence
Proudy Hill Tithe Property Plan of Glendue Wood ascending on all sides & especially on the
Proudy Hill Mr Clarke Agent North, the ascent commences from the
Tyne, it is situated on Knaresdale
Common & about 300 yards S. of the
Maiden Way on the top. It has all the appear-
ances of an artificial addition to the Natural
Elevation & it commands a view from "Slime"
(Whitley Castle) on the E. to Caervoran on the W.;
A perfect resemblance of a Tumuli remains at one
End (E.); From its commanding situation contiguity to the Maiden
Way, and present appearance, and overlooking a chain
of Fortresses it leaves little doubt but it was a
Castra of the Romans: The Clergyman the Revd H. Morton & the Property Agent
has a strong opinion of its Roman occupation. A proper investigation
has not hitherto been made Dr Bruce is about [???] the stations his the
decision of the antiquarian Society is nearly certain to see it as a Roman station
