Scremerston Scremerston Whellans Directory on Sheet A small village situated on
(Village) Revd Hugh Evans 7.6 an eminence, near the Sea Shore,
Scremerston John Grey Esqr and about 3 1/2 miles S.S. East of
(Village) Mr Edward Pringle Berwick – all they dwellings are
Scremerston small Cottages, with the exception
(Village) of one farmhouse, the outbuildings
of which are very extensive, composing
nearly the half of the village, the
greater part of the houses are of
modern erection, altho’ the village
must be a very old one, for, we
that it was destroyed by the Scots
in the year 1386, but was subsequently
rebuilt –
This village is scarcely ever
mentioned in the neighbourhood
it being designated the "Town Farm"
and even on the Estate maps –
this name is given to it, and
the village not mentioned –
It is the property of Greenwich
Hospital –
