Berwickhill Berwickhill Mr. George Dick on Sheet A row of old houses, situated
Mr. John Gilroy 4.13 about 16 chains east of the "Border
Mr. John Purvis, (Miners’ Arms) Inn", they are occupied by
Laborers, and are the property
of Mr Johnstone.
The Corporation of Berwick
about 30 years ago had a Coal
-pit here, & the refuse heaps at
such places, are called "hills"
hence the name "Berwickhill"
Sunnyside Cut Sunnyside Cut Mr. George Dick on Sheet A deep cutting, on the Turnpike
Mr. John Gilroy 4.13 road leading from Berwick to
Mr. John Purvis, (Miners’ Arms) Belford &c. It extends from
Tweedmouth Cemetery, to the
Miners Arms Cow Road, with the exception
of a few chains north of the
"Border Inn", there is a great
Coal traffic, on this road,
and this cutting is well
known, for miles around.
