Nessend Mr R Stamp, Schoolmaster 8.14 Rocks and well defined seawards;
Nessend Mr G Grey, Holy Island ridge and flat rocks extend from it
to low water mark, and on the N.W.
cliff is a quarry of limestone and
a number of caves formed out of
the sand and limestone by the
action of the waves upon the spongy
sandstone, they vary in size and form,
and the cliff, which often falls in,
and overhangs its base, is merely
supported in many of the caves by
small pillars of stone which in
course of time are so worn by
filteration above and the action
of the sea and shingle beneath
as to be unable to support the weight
which then gives way – This caves
give name to a boat cove called "Caves Haven"
