appears again in very good preservation enclosing the Abbey Grounds on the East,
and on to the top of Battle Hill, where it is entirely lost having been removed
some considerable time since in widening the road –
the portions of the Abbey have all been pointed out by Mr Joseph Fairless whom
the Society of Antiquarians Style the "Genius loci" in their report of February 61
a gentleman to whom the O Survey is indebted for much valuable information
respecting the town of Hexham
