Stobs Cross Mr John Stoker of Hall Shield The cross on top appears to have been broken off.
Stobs Cross Mr James Rutherford Tradition says that this
has been a Burial place
in connection with Spital
Shield which formed an
Hospital or retreat for
patients belonging to
to Hexham which were
sent there for change
of Air. And if Any
Chanced to die they
are supposed to have
been Buried at
Stobs Cross. The
surrounding country appears
to have been one tract
of Moorland at that
time
