Fosse Fosse MacLaughan’s Memories 11 Chains North A deep ditch constructed on the
(Remains of) of the Roman Wall of Carvoran north side of the Roman Wall for
Fosse Mr Lowes which barrier it formed a defence,
Fosse Revd Dr C Bruce and accompanied it from Tyne-
Fosse Dr Charlton mouth to the Firth of Forth Solway Firth, it
Fosse Hodgson’s Hstory of North- varied in depth according as the
umberland nature of the country required,
and varying from 7 to 16 feet deep.
For a considerable distance
through this parish the Roman Wall
was carried along the top of a high
ridge of basaltic whinstone, here
the fosse was dispensed with
it may be traced for considerable
distances through this parish, but in
many places all traces has been
obliterated by the plough.
Camp Camp Revd Dr J C Bruce 53 Chains It contains an area of about
(Remains of) Camp Mr Campbell South West of 3 acres and is situated on the summit
Camp Mr Lowes Carvoran of a small eminence it had four entrances
the remains of the eastern gateway is faintly traceable but the
other entrances are not traceable the stones have all been carried
away and now what remains of the camp is barely traceable and is grown
with grass & rough pasture
