Mr William Robson Crookham about 2 1/2 miles from Cornhill upon the Coldstream
Northumberland Directory and Wooler road, there is a considerable quantity
of arable land belonging to this farm, in a good
state of cultivation, the present occupier is the Widow
of the late Peter Grieve farmer

of Crookham, the origin is variously stated to have
been to commemorate the English victory at Flodden
and by another account, erected on the spot where James
IVth was slain, it is far from the field of Battle
this therefore must be erroneous. The Revd. Mr Jones
is of opinion that it existed long before Flodden
as a meeting place for troops during the Border
wars, the Standing Stone on Crookham Moor was
made frequent mention of
