Farne Island Farne Island Mr King, Agent N Sunderland on Sheet Farne or House island, is the largest of
Farne Island Mr Darling, Longstone 17.A the group, it is of an irregular quadrang-
Farne Island Mr Troth, Resident -ular form, and at low water has an
Farne Island Admiralty Charts of 1789-1858- area of about 16 acres most of which
are almost entirely bare rock. In
the centre of the island there is good
pasture formerly supporting 12 sheep,
but at present there are no animals
kept excepting a pig or two, and a donkey.
The south and west sides of the isle
present precipitous cliffs of rudely
columnar basalt, rising black and
frowning to the height of about 50 feet,
sloping to the N.E. and the only
residents are the families of three light
i.e. besides -keepers. Forby the dwellings of the
lightkeepers, there are two lighthouses,
a tower, Chapel, boathouse, stable,
gardens &c Like the other islands, this one
belongs to the Dean and Chapter of Du
