ROMAN ROAD Roman Road Edward Lawson Esq About 53 chains S of This is the remains of an ancient Roman Road which
(Remains of) Roman Road Mr. Coulson Toft House branches off Watling Street a little to the East of the
Roman Road Mr. Robson Roman Station ‘Bremenium’ and after passing close
to the south side of Dyke Head takes a North Easterly
direction crossing Rochester Common skirting the south
base of Balyardley Hill passing a little to the south
of Stewart Shield and Branshaw and enters the Parish
of Alwinton a little to the North of a remarkable
eminence called Greenwood Law. The line of this Road is
generally traceable by the appearance of a small ridge and
also a slight difference in the vegetation along its course
The two portions shown as laid open near the south West corner
of this plan have lately been stripet and a permanent
pavement consisting of large flat stones found imbedded
about 9 inches below the present surface
