(Site of) ancient structure nor is there any authentic
"Very nearly in the same line, in the bed of the river, and four feet record of the mode of its construction it is however
below the lowest water in dry seasons, is to be seen a piece of certain that a great quantity of oak was used
timber fastened down seemingly by piles driven on each side in the foundations the last of which was taken
of it. A piece of this wood has been cut off and a table made of it up a few years since in an excellent state
which has taken a good polish. It is conjectured that this of preservation and much valued on account
may have been part of a bridge at one time" of its antiquity
