Tombs Tombs Mr MacLauchlan’s Plan of Watling Street 28 chains east of Four reasonable objects situated
Tombs Mr Coulson Hopesley House. on the South side of Watling Street
Tombs Mr Amos about 1/2 mile East of Bremenium
The most north west one of these objects
consists of a circular stone structure about 4 feet above the ground. This was opened
and an urn, some ashes & coins found in the interior. On the second course of stones from
the ground & on the west side the head of an animal is cut in the face of a stone and
on the east side at the same height from the ground there is a figure like a diamond
cut upon the face of another stone, both very indistinct. Immediately on the south east side of
the circular one are two square figures about 9 feet square. The outline of these are
marked with blocks of well dressed stones, regularly laid together as if commencing the
foundation of a permanent building. At about 38 yards still further to the south east
lies the fourth grave or tomb. This object is of the same description as the two above
described. None of the square figures have been opened consequently no description
can be given of the interior.
