Brinkburn Grove Brinkburn Grove Mr. Thomas Stobie Jackson’s Stile 13 Chains South The Modern name of a small enclosed
Brinkburn Grove White’s Directory West of bank of Pasture land partially
Combfield Cottage Wooded and adjoining the Coquet.
within it are several traces of Buildings
very distinct and referred to in White’s
Directory thus "Brinkburn Grove"
is said to have been devoted to the
Worship of Jupiter" At Alnwick I
called on Geo. Tate Esq Antiquary &c
who told me that he and several other
Gentlemen had personally inspected this
place & that no doubt the Buildings
were of Roman origin but for what
use erected no one could determine.
altho most probably merely part of the
remains of a suburb of the [adj]
adjoining Camp.
The Gamekeeper of the Estate
(Mr. Stobie) pointed out the traces
and was the only Authority I could
get for the name, he however told
me that if C.H. Cadogan Esq
the Proprieter had been at home
he would have been another.
