Tumulus Tumulus Mr Arkle About 48 chains N.W. A large mound of earth situate between two standing
Tumulus Whites Directory of Sandyford stones and was evidently used as a place of interment
Tumulus Hodgsons History it was opened in 1718 and found to
contain a stone coffin but neither bones urns coins nor
inscriptions was found hence the name of the warrior
or chieftain whose remains were here intered is for ever
consigned to oblivion

in 1552 directs the watch to be kept at the two stones
caled the Poind and his man with two men nightly
of the inhabitants of Bolam (Table Book)
Hence it appears the same name was applied to these
two stones previous to the above date
