Hareshaw Ironworks Hareshaw Ironworks Mr. Allen About 20 chains N E of These extensive works were established in 1840 by Messrs.
Hareshaw Ironworks Mr Pearson St Cuthberts Church Campion Barton and Co. but in 1846 they became the
Hareshaw Ironworks Mr Thompson property of the Union Banking Company of Newcastle
in whose possession they still remain though they have not
been working since 1848 The works contain three furnaces
an engine of 120 horse powe and a water wheel of seventy
horse power to furnish a blast for smelting the ironstone
There are also about seventy coke ovens for the preperation
of coke for the furnaces the whole of these works are now
in a very neglected and ruinous condition
