Queen And her Satellites, but he eventually landed at "Budle" from where
he proceeded to "Spindleston Heughs", threw the Reigns of his Steed over a
perpendicular Rock, of 10 feet in height, which is still standing, in the
Form of a Column, being detached from the Cliff, and then proceeded to
where the Worm was, Restored her to her Natural form, and they then proceeded
to their Fathers Castle of "Bamburgh" to the great joy of the Old King.
He (Childy Wynd) in Revenge for his Sisters treatment, Changed the
perfidious Queen, into a Loathsome Toad of enormous Size, and it was
often Seen? Crawling along the beach spitting its venom, at at all the Maids
of "Bamburgh" but, it, is, now said to be in the "Sallyport Well", and is seen only once
every 7 years, & only then by a Maid.
The greater part of the above, is gathered from a Poem. Written by the Revd Robt Lamb
Vicar of Norham, about the
Middle of the 18th Cent but is attributed to, Duncan Frasier,
An Ancient bard of Cheviot A.D. 1270.
