North of Cowey’s Cairn (a well known object on the boundary be-
tween the Parishes of Alwinton and Elsdon) then running
in an north easterly direction, from the point, near Cowey’s Cairn
on the South are a great number of large stones regularly laid
for a considerable distance. Continuing in the above direction it
is quite discernible as it passes along the Summit of the well
known ridge called "Long Toe" (which is situated between
Yardhope and Longtoe Burns), from the East end of the
above ridge ("Long Toe") it inclines a little to the South in line
nearly East Crossing Longtoe Burn about 3 feet from its junction
with Holystone and Yardhope Burns, from the last and best
Known place on its route it turns abruptly to the North East,
passing about 40 yards South of North Yardhope (a farmhouse)
and crossing "Well Sike" from the last mentioned rivulet it
runs nearly in an Easterly direction, from the confluence of
"Longtoe Burn" with Holystone Burn to a point about 70 Yards East
of "Well Sike" not the slightest trace visible, the only guide to
its course being the actual appearance of the ground and
general direction, from the above mentioned 70 yards it continues
in an Easterly direction until it crosses "Washpool Sike" from this
place it takes a North Easterly course, crossing the "Saughy Sike"
then keeping nearly parallel and frequently crosses the North side
of the Wood called "The Oaks" About 11 yards North of the North
East corner of "The Oaks" it crosses the Western boundary of
"Holystone Common" about 220 Yards North of the T.O.
