Monument Monument F Holland Esq 20 Chains South a stone handsome monument very recently erected on the spot
Monument G Tate Esq South east of where William the Lion was taken Prisoner &c
Monument Mr W Allen Alnwick Abbey It is inscribed as follows. "William the
Erected in commemoration White’s Directory Lion, King of Scotland, beseiging
of the victory gained over Alnwick Castle was here taken
William the Lion, King prisoner 1174". The present Monument
of Scotland who was taken occupies the site of the more ancient one
prisoner on this spot removed during the early part of the present
12 July 1174 year 1864
