This hill, the highest in the range, has an altitude of 2,684 feet, according
to Sir Thomas Brisbane –
From this point, the Cheviots run in a South West direction by
"Carter Fell", altitude 2020 feet, to "Peel Fell" in lat. 55[degrees] 17′ 0" and
West long. 2[degrees] 35′ 0" –
The principal pass in the range is that known by the name of the
Carter Bar – by which the road from Jedburgh to Newcastle
enters England
